Masahiro Sakurai Does Not Know Where the Super Smash Bros. Series Will Go After Ultimate

In a new video on the official Masahiro Sakurai YouTube channel, the main man himself discussed the latest entry of the Super Smash Bros. series, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Sakurai briefly highlights the highs of this game’s development, including particular breakthroughs that make it a genuine landmark entry. The evolution of its sheer quantity is emphasized above all else.

However, the end of the video does have Sakurai lightly remark on the potential of a future entry. He says that despite him being at the helm of the franchise, he’s not sure where it’ll go from here. He feels like the team truly made fans happy with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

With such an increase in collective size regarding game content, Sakurai does not believe a comparable jump could occur again. Each Super Smash Bros. entry pushed the envelope further and further, to extents that Sakurai continually thought impossible. Limits were constantly surpassed, yet it’s reached a point where the feasibility of even more growth seems exceptionally difficult.
