Marvel’s Avengers Reveals Beta and Clint Barton’s Hawkeye as Free Character

Square Enix announced that Crystal Dynamics-developed action-adventure Marvel’s Avengers will launch a beta on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One beginning on August 7.

During the beta, players can take on several single-player missions with an AI Avengers team or take on some quests with up to four plays in co-op. During one of the missions, players assume the role of Kamala Khan who teams up with the Hulk to infiltrate an AIM base. They also uncover SHIELD secrets in a hidden underground bunker.

“We really want to give fans an in-depth look at what they can expect when they get their hands on the beta starting on August 7th,” said Scot Amos, Co-Head of Crystal Dynamics. “I couldn’t be more proud of the work the team has done getting Marvel’s Avengers ready for players, and can’t wait to see their reactions.”

Those who link their PS4 and Xbox One accounts to their Square Enix Members and Epic Games account can receive exclusive digital gifts for completing the HARM-room challenges. The gifts are Fortnite cosmetics in the form of a “Hulk Smashers Pickaxe.”

Lastly, the team revealed that Clint Barton’s Hawkeye will be a free character in the game. Players will play through an original story-arc that will progress the overarching narrative of the main campaign.

Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor just so happen to be unveiling an Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco as well as their own helicarrier powered energy source. However, the celebration doesn’t last long when an accident strikes and the Avengers Disband. Five years later, in a time where Super Heroes are outlawed, Earth must call upon these heroes to help them against approaching evil.

Marvel’s Avengers will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on September 4, with a planned launch in holiday 2020 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
