Seven Seas has released the autobiographical manga My Alcoholic Escape From Reality in print and digitally in the west.
My Alcoholic Escape From Reality is writing by Nagata Kabi, who has previously released My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness and the Eisner-nominated series My Solo Exchange Diary, this emotional new work follows Kabi-san’s struggles with alcohol, including a hospital stay for pancreatitis.
Kabi-san will be a featured guest at the virtual Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) on May 12 at 7 pm EST. A pre-recorded interview about her work will premiere on TCAF’s YouTube channel, a first for her English-speaking fans, hosted by Publishers Weekly’s Deb Aoki and interpreter Jocelyne Allen, who translated Nagata Kabi’s manga for Seven Seas.
My Alcoholic Escape From Reality follows Nagata Kabi’s downward spiral is getting out of control, and she can’t stop drinking to soothe the ache of reality. A new chapter unfolds in Nagata Kabi’s life as she struggles to find her way back to reality and manga creation in the wake of her breakdown.
