Original dark fantasy action anime Maiden Blood has been announced for a 2027 premiere. The series centers on sisters Eva and Epica, whose blood connection becomes humanity’s key weapon against demons. Polygon Pictures is handling animation production, while international release details have not yet been announced.
The story takes place after Armageddon ends with humanity nearly wiped out. Eight billion people are sacrificed to an Evil God, leaving only a small number of survivors behind. The catastrophe also breaks the cycle of renewal known as Frashokereti, leaving humanity in a sunless setting where blood has become currency, fuel, and a weapon.
Mages eventually develop a forbidden ritual that transforms a girl’s blood into a blade capable of killing demons. Those chosen to fight this way are known as blood warriors.
Epica is the strongest blood warrior, but her soul has been stolen. Her older sister Eva has been unable to walk since birth, yet Eva’s blood is the only thing capable of awakening Epica’s power. Their relationship forms the core of the series as the remaining humans continue their fight against the demons.
Iori Saeki will voice Eva, while Yukari Anzai will portray Epica.
Seiji Kishi is directing Maiden Blood and is credited for the original work alongside Makoto Uezu and Pony Canyon. Uezu is also handling series composition, while LAM provided the original character designs. Satoki Iida serves as sound director.
Keiichi Okabe, Kuniyuki Takahashi, and Taichi Jouraku are composing the music. Pony Canyon is handling music production, with MONACA providing production cooperation.
