Lost Judgment Could be Last Entry in the Series Due to Dispute Over PC Release
Sega has been embracing the PC platform with several of their series, including the Yakuza titles. However, one series has been avoiding a PC release recently that has had fans confused, but there may be a reason for that.
Lost Judgement is the second entry in the Judgement series. When the game was revealed, it was quickly reported that a PC release was in development thanks to a logo found on the site. However, this was quickly redacted when the website was updated to remove the logo.
Well, it seems that Sega and talent agency Johny’s aren’t agreeing to a proper PC release. The agency currently manages Takuya Kimura, the actor who plays the protagonist of the series. Still, he most likely has little say in the conversation, no matter how much he enjoys being Takayuki Yagami.
The dispute revolves around Takuya-san’s likeness when it comes to the PC release. The agency doesn’t have control over mods and other adjustments the PC version enables players to make. As a result, the team is reluctant to allow the series on PC, which Sega sees as a profitable platform.
Weekly publication Nikkan Taishu shared an article where an insider said, “those on the side of the game developer and those on the side of Johnny’s are said to have been unable to reach an agreement regarding the platforms to sell the game.” While Judgement was released on Stadia, this could have been due to the agency not really knowing what Stadia is.
If Lost Judgement ends up finding a popular crowd, I’m sure Sega will continue the series in the future, but that could be at the cost of losing the main protagonist.
Lost Judgment will be released worldwide for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on September 24, 2021.
