Live A Live Shares Brief Trailer Highlighting Imperial China

Square Enix Japan has shared a new brief trailer for the upcoming HD-2D remake of Live A Live, showcasing one of the game’s many eras, Imperial China. Prospective players can get a peek at this title’s updated visuals, the characters that inhabit this time period, and more. Personally, it genuinely seems like this re-release will do this pivotal classic JRPG justice.

Nintendo has shared an English version of the trailer including English voice acting, viewable below:

Read our staff writer’s feature on why Live A Live matters.

Live A Live was initially released only in Japan for the Super Famicom in 1994. It is unique as a JRPG title as it is effectively seven smaller games that take place across different settings and time periods, with two unlockable scenarios that tie the stories together.

The title gained a following outside of Japan thanks to a fan translation that was among the earliest widely-shared complete patches, despite being considered to be a sales failure in its home country. The title has (again, exclusively in Japan) also been re-released through the Virtual Console service on the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

Live A Live is releasing for Nintendo Switch worldwide on July 22, 2022.
