Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Comments on Why Japan & Western Titles Differ

The executive producer of Ryu Ga Gotoku 8, Masayoshi Yokoyama, has shared a new message to fans highly anticipating the upcoming Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. In Japan, the game will be titled Ryu Ga Gotoku 8.

The reason provided was “because [they] determined the messages and themes of this latest game could be perceived differently by fans in Japan and Asia versus those in the West who started the franchise from Yakuza: Like a Dragon.”

Essentially, as he clarifies later on in the message, the characters and parts of the story throughout the game will be received differently depending on one’s history with the series. So, the Western name was chosen primarily for those who started the games with the seventh game in the franchise, Yakuza: Like a Dragon. I assume this is to not alienate those crowds.

He then goes on to say that the concept of infinity is integral to the title and that fans may even come up with one of their own after playing through the story.
