Developer Classi5ed has launched a Kickstarter campaign for Lie of Caelum: Spirit, a PSX and Saturn-inspired sci-fi mecha JRPG currently in development for PC via Steam. The campaign is seeking $34,000 in funding, with English and Japanese language support planned.
Backers can support the project starting at $18 for a tier that includes an early Steam key. Higher support tiers allow players to contribute content such as monsters and NPCs, while the highest tiers include working with the developer on a playable character and corresponding Frame mech.
The soundtrack is also set to feature composers Kurippertronixxx and Mushra of Seed of Nostalgia, with Motoi Sakuraba attached as a guest composer if the campaign reaches the required funding target. Sakuraba is known for his work on series including Tales of, Star Ocean, and Dark Souls, as well as Phantasy Star Nova and the Phantasy Star Online Premium Arrange album.
Lie of Caelum: Spirit takes inspiration from Xenogears and Phantasy Star, combining turn-based combat with giant mechs, on-foot exploration, and high-speed shmup sections. The game features 14 playable characters, each paired with their own Frame and combat style.
Battles use turn-based commands alongside timing-based Just Attack and Just Guard mechanics. Enemy encounters are visible rather than random, while exploration includes hidden paths across the game’s different gameplay formats. Players will also raise a Link Catalyst, a small sentient companion that develops alongside the party.
Classi5ed is developing Lie of Caelum: Spirit in RPG Maker MZ, despite its combat systems and presentation differing from the engine’s more traditional RPG applications. Developer Stark Joker cited Xenogears and Phantasy Star as major influences on the project, particularly their combination of science-fiction settings, military conflict, and mecha.
Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions are currently listed as an additional Kickstarter stretch goal rather than part of the initial PC release.
