The latest Square Enix Financial Briefing Report has been released to the public. Besides the standard information one would expect from such a report, there are also some statements regarding the company’s hopes and a teasing statement regarding future titles from the developer.
One such statement pertains to the company’s mobile game performance which has increased over the past year. Yosuke Matsuda stated, ” We are hoping that “NieR Re[in]carnation,” which is slated for launch on February 18, will be joining the ranks of our key titles.”
The lack of success for Marvel’s Avengers was also briefly touched upon as its overall slow sales, and lack of recouped development costs saw a notable operating loss.
MMO sales decreased in profitability due to Final Fantasy XIV’s and Dragon Quest X’s absence of new expansions. Still, the company anticipates some more profitability in the near future, especially given the recent hype for the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Endwalker.
Lastly, during the end report Q&A, Matsuda stated that ” We are planning to release multiple titles for which we have high expectations in FY2022/3, including some that we have yet to announce.” This cryptic statement has caused much speculation amongst Square Enix as there are many predictions blazing about what unexpected titles Square Enix will have in store for us shortly. For now, we will have to wait and see.
