The Last Remnant Reemerges With Remastered PS4 release in the West

Square Enix announced the release of The Last Remnant Remastered, coming to PlayStation 4-via PSN on December 6.

Originally released in 2008 as an Xbox 360 exclusive, The Last Remnant follows the Rush Sykes, a warrior whos sister has been kidnapped which leads him on a mission to find her. Coincidently, Rush finds himself in the middle of a war fueled by powerful artifacts known as Remnants. Those who wield Remnants control the balance of power in the world and Rush will discover that he plays a much bigger role in using this power.

Directed by Nobuyuki Ueda (Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Romancing SaGa), when released, The Last Remnant felt like a way to get the west more interested in JRPGs. Sadly, the game didn’t grab the attention of a more broad range of gamers and was forgotten.

Thankfully, times have changed, and Square Enix seems to realize that now is the best time to revive this IP and give it new life since the JRPG genre is gaining more and more popularity every year. The Last Remnant Remastered has been enhanced with Unreal Engine 4 and has received balances to gameplay to reflect current systems.

The Last Remnant Remastered will release digitally on PlayStation 4 on December 6 for $19.99.

Author’s take: I recently started playing The Last Remnant again so I guess I’ll just stop and wait for this version to come out. I’m glad to see Square Enix take a chance on these older IP with hopes that maybe a sequel could happen.
