Koei Tecmo Gauging the Otome Market in the West With Ruby Party Poll

Koei Tecmo opened a poll on the Twitter recently where they asked their western audience if games like Ruby Party would interest them. Currently, the poll is still active with two days remaining and sitting at 81% answering “Yes”, with over 1700 votes.

Ruby Party is the name for a group of female developers who work at Koei Tecmo. They specialize in creating otome style titles, even after a few males joined the team. Currently, they have been developing titles on Nintendo Switch with their Harukanaru Toki no Naka de series, which has received releases on both PlayStation Vita and PSP. Sadly, none of these titles have comes west, but that could be based on the low demand for these games. Or so the publisher thought.

Judging by the actions of western publishers like Aksys Games and XSEED, otome visual novels are like an untapped well in this market. The fans are pretty vocal about the genre, but with most of the series lacking an English localization, bringing over years of otome titles might not be within their means. Regardless, we’ll hold out some hope.

In the meantime, be sure to let them know what you think about Ruby Party titles. While they mention that it’s just to collect data, at least you have the chance to let them know.
