The headlining final announcement from today’s Nintendo Direct presentation was the reveal of Kirby and the World Beyond, a brand-new 3-D platformer that appears to have an open world.
From what we saw in the trailer, Kirby’s Sword form gained a power-up and was able to be used to cleave down parts of the explorable environment to unlock new travel paths. A fight with King Dedede ended with the villain crashing through the sky and creating a large hole, which Kirby opened further with the sword to reveal a huge, open, JRPG-esque zone, before the trailer ended.
Kirby and the World Beyond is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027; you can check out the trailer above and our review of Kirby and the Forgotten Land here.
