Shadowlight and Phoenix Games have announced that the Chinese cyber-noir detective RPG Kill the Shadow will launch for PC via Steam on August 5, 2026. The game follows a former detective who investigates a string of deaths by reconstructing the final moments of each victim.
Players take on the role of Lucas, a detective tied to a supernatural entity known as the Shadow. The entity can recreate events surrounding a person’s death, allowing Lucas to study crime scenes as they happened, compare evidence, and identify contradictions in witness accounts. The mechanic does not let players alter the past.
The investigation begins after Teddy, the feared and fiercely loyal dog belonging to Captain Theo, is found dead under suspicious circumstances. That case draws Lucas into a larger conspiracy connected to Dark Tide City’s history, including the disappearance of Master Reed during a temple festival and long-running disputes in Shipwreck Wharf.
Alongside its detective mechanics, Kill the Shadow includes RPG progression that affects how Lucas handles each case. Players can invest in deduction and intelligence to examine evidence, use charisma and persuasion during conversations, or rely on force when other methods fail. Choices made during investigations can lead to different judgments, character outcomes, and multiple endings.
Dark Tide City includes abandoned factories, flood-damaged docklands, temple districts, and walled urban areas. The game presents these locations through detailed 3D environments paired with animated 2D pixel art characters.
