Keylocker is described as a “Cyberpunk turn-based rhythm JRPG inspired by the Mario&Luigi RPG series and Chrono Trigger.” The developer is seeking $35,000 with 26 days to go to fund the game’s ambitious mechanics.
However, the developer isn’t launching the game without showing what they are capable of with the release of a demo available now for players to preview the systems before backing. You can play the Demo now on the Steam page.
Keylocker is set in a world where music has been banned, and players assume the role of singer and songwriter Bobo. Players will fill the world with music by using real-time execution of moves in rhythm game style. Bobo will fight back against the authorities and unlock the secrets of this cyberpunk Saturn.
The gameplay offers various features outside of combat, but understand that there are no random battles that are more akin to Chrono Trigger, where players know when the battles will occur. Further, players can hack into profiles to acquire resources or change the course of the story, which has multiple endings. There’s also a rhythm mini-game similar to guitar hero, with the inclusion of dating elements that players can explore.
We’ll definitely follow the development of this game.
