Visual Novel ‘Kanon’ Switch Trailer Shows Intro and April Release Date; Sadly, English Text Will Not Be Supported

Prototype has released a new trailer showing Key-developed emotional visual novel Kanon, coming to Nintendo Switch on April 4, 2023.

While watching the gameplay, a westerner like myself can only daydream about a timeline where this game was released officially in English. Alas, that day is not today, and this Switch version will not contain an English text option.

However, recently the developer did share that they will keep the overseas market in mind with localization announcements for several Key-developed titles, including LOOPERS, Lunaria, Tsui no Stella, and Summer Pockets Reflection Blue. Still, it would have been nice to be able to play this game officially in the west. That said, there are fan translations available.

The Switch release of Kanon will feature a fast-forward and rewind option as well as utilize the 16:9 screen ratio of the Switch to work with the 4:3 images the PC version had. Players are able to scroll the display using the L stick or drag it up and down using the touch screen. When using “CG viewing” mode, players can zoom in and out of the artwork.

We’re happy to see Kanon on Switch, but it’s disappointing the west never got this game.
