Roguelike RPG ‘Kagura Genesis: Kuon’s Story’ Simultaneous Worldwide Release Announced for 2024
Publisher Shiravune has announced the international release of Kagura Genesis: Kuon’s Story. The roguelike RPG developed by Debonosu Works is the newest in the long-standing Kagura series and comes to PC (Steam, Johren) on January 26, 2024.
The Kagura series is composed of RPGs about shrine maidens fighting against evil spirits and recruiting youkai to help them in their missions. As usual for the franchise, the new game includes 18+ content, which will be available from the get-go on Johren or can be added to the Steam edition via free patch.
For Kagura Genesis: Kuon’s Story, the story revolves around Kuon Makami, who’s voiced by Hanami Takanashi (Horny Elves and a Moral Orc’s Eimy). She’s a demi-god who has Makami-no-Okami as one of her parents and has been trained in the sword arts by her mother, an exorcist miko.
After her mother died, Kuon has lived isolated from the human realm in the middle of a quiet forest. However, the woods start facing a dreadful calamity with dark spirits threatening its peace. Now she’ll have to look for the source and exorcise it to bring back the balance.
During the dungeon exploration, Kuon can recruit youkai allies, then buff them to fight enemies. According to the publisher, features from previous games in the series are back, such as the Pandemonium and Youkai Soulshare, to help players improve their parties. More CGs and special interludes also promise to expand the story experience compared to previous games.
