Jon Shafer announced today that after 7 years in development, Jon Shafer’s At the Gates will launch on PC-via Steam on January 23, 2019.
Jon Shafer’s At the Gates incorporates various roguelike elements into a 4x grand strategy that aims to provide a new experience for fans of the genre.
“I’ve always been driven to innovate with my games and At the Gates is no exception”, Shafer said. “The genre has gotten a bit stale but it still has enormous potential, and that’s what I’m aiming to tap into by mixing roguelike elements into the classic 4X grand strategy formula.”
Jon Shafer’s At the Gates features an evolving map that changes with the seasons and weather which will transform the landscape. Players will need to learn about the different clans who each have unique traits and desires. Players will need to fight for survival and might sure they have resources and are able to hold their own if a neighboring town wants to fight.
The developer also released a launch trailer showing the game’s watercolor-like design and gameplay.

Author’s take: I suck at these games because all I want to do is run into battle and kill everything, but that’s not the way life works and you need to take things slower. With that said, the game looks pretty.
