Bandai Namco has surprised everyone with the announcement of a new Jojo game, that happens to be a battle royale title of all things. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Last Survivor is the new and upcoming title coming to Japanese arcades next year. Players will be fighting each other using their signature ‘stand powers’ in arenas’ that would hold up to 20-player matches. The launch cast will feature characters from parts 3 to 5 of the series.
You can catch the Japanese teaser trailer below.
The arcade cabinet appears to be using the same controller pad that was first used by Dissidia NT. This means the controller will be similar to that of a PlayStation 4 controller, split into two halves and separated. Whether or not this leads to a later PlayStation console release, of course, remains to be seen.
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is a very long-running manga series that stars the titular Joestar bloodline. Different descendants of the bloodline go through ludicrously different adventures that go through more bizarre scenarios than you can count on your fingers. Using the power of ‘stands’, the ever revolving casts solve mysteries and fight villains that range from vampires and priests to presidents and serial killers with hand fetishes.
A location test is planned for January 2019 in Japanese game centers. The teaser website can be found here.
Author’s Notes: A Jojo battle royale?! Sign me the hell up. It’s going to be really interesting to see how they handle the stands. I mean, it’s a stand based game, it’ll either make or break the title.
