Infinity Series Writer Kotaro Uchikoshi Not Involved in Remakes and Won’t Make Any Money From Them, But Still Hopes for Their Success
A few days ago, we reported on an interview with the MAGES director Makoto Asada where the developer announced that there is a reboot of the visual novel series, Infinity, which officially includes five titles, Never 7: The End of Infinity, Ever 17: The Out of Infinity, Remember 11: The Age of Infinity, 12Riven: The Psi-Climinal of Integral, and Code_18.
The titles that would receive the reboot were not discussed, but Asada-san shared that fans should “Please wait a little longer until we can officially tell you about it, but yes, plans are in motion to remake the series.”
Shortly after the announcement, scenario writer Kotaro Uchikoshi revealed that he had no knowledge of the announcement. Unchikoshi-san when on to share, “To be precise, several years ago, Nakazawa and I had received a proposal from them to work together to make the remakes. However, unfortunately, we had to decline the proposal due to scheduling difficulties.”
This was troubling to hear from fans, and Uchichikoshi-san admits that he was “somewhat disappointed” about the announcement because “those are the games that we, all the staff at the time, created with our lives on the line.”
More information was shared with the creator, saying, “24 years ago, we were employees of KID. At the time, we were in our early to mid-twenties and literally kids. The company believed in such freaking kids. They took a great risk, bet on our success, and invested in us. Therefore it makes sense the company has the rights to the series,” and added, “Now the rights have transferred to another company, but they bought them out legally, so they are free to use them however they want. Thus I’m not going to say anything like grumble, and don’t have the right to say anything in the first place. I would really rather support them.”
He admits that no matter how many of the remakes are sold, the old team will not get any “financial reward.” Still, he shares, “I sincerely hope that the remakes are successful and will go on literally for infinity.”
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on future announcements surrounding the Infinity series remakes.
