During Sony’s State of Play video showcase, Tha ltd. and publisher Enhance unveiled the former’s first debut title, Humanity — coming to PlayStation 4 and PSVR in 2020. Humanity will be a thoughtful game created by Yugo Nakamura and his team at Tha Ltd to reflect on the thought of watching humans from an outside perspective.
The video’s first look shares with fans the “stark but iconic look” of the game. “And the use of massive crowds of individuals people of all kinds, as they work together and fight against each other in various ways.”
While there were no concrete details of the gameplay or objectives, Enhance has shared they will have more to unveil next year, closer to the game’s launch.
Over on the PlayStation Blog, the creative director and founder of Tha ltd, Yugo Nakamura regaled the thought and origin of the game’s design. Saying when biologists observed mysterious group behaviors in birds, they one day recognized that when focusing on a single bird you can notice three simple rules: moving forward in the group, steering in the same direction, and keep far away enough to avoid a collision. These observations realized that there is no shared consciousness among a group, it is more of a chain of instinctual behaviors among each individual member of the group, which founded the algorithm known as “the boids.”
Humanity is also published and co-produced by Enhance, creators of Tetris Effect and Rez. Enhance CEO Tetsuya Mizuguchi explained being “mesmerized” but an early demo for the game. “From the first early demo I saw, I couldn’t get Humanity out of my head,” says Mizuguchi. “The whole look and feel of it—especially in VR. I knew right away it could be something special.”

Author’s Take: Humanity is looking to be a solid title for a studio’s debut, especially when they don’t specifically specialize in video games! This is one to keep an eye on.
