Shueisha Games and developer LASTWONDER have announced the roguelite action game HOSHiN ENGi Re:surrection based on Ryu Fujisaki’s HOSHiN ENGi for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam in 2027.
The game features an original story set after the ending of Fujisaki’s manga. Fujisaki is overseeing the project and has designed a new protagonist for the game roughly 30 years after the manga’s original serialization.
Players control a young disciple of Taikobo as conflict is initiated by immortals, demons, and creatures from ancient Chinese mythology. Familiar characters include Taikobo, Supushan, Yozen, Nataku, and Koh Tenka.
The combat revolves around Paope, mythic treasures you can combine into different character builds. Main Paope serve as primary offensive tools, while Sub Paope provide additional effects that can change how encounters play out. Paope can also be upgraded to gain evolved attacks.
Each dungeon run features changing layouts and branching routes. Players choose between different rewards as they move between islands, including acquiring Paope, strengthening companions, and taking on training duels against familiar characters. Secret Arts obtained during a run are randomized, while Materials can be brought back to the base and used for permanent character and Paope upgrades.
The protagonist is accompanied by a Reiju spirit beast during combat. When fighting on foot, the Reiju can act independently to provide protection and disrupt enemies. Players can also mount it to access separate actions, including aerial dashes and attacks designed to get behind enemies.
Characters from HOSHiN ENGi can be encountered at the base and during dungeon runs. Conversations develop the protagonist’s relationships with them, while some characters can initiate training battles that provide additional rewards when defeated.
