Headware Games has released a significant update for its survival horror short story Hollowbody, adding the highly anticipated Third-Person Mode. This new feature lets players toggle between the classic fixed camera angles and a modern over-the-shoulder view, offering more flexibility in how they navigate the game’s tense and atmospheric world.
Now available on PC via Steam and GOG, this update doesn’t stop at the camera options. It also includes changes to combat encounters, enemy behavior, and overall performance optimization, aiming to refine the experience for players exploring the exclusion zone. Classic Survival Horror Meets Modern Updates
Hollowbody draws inspiration from early 2000s survival horror games, featuring limited resources, environmental puzzles, and an oppressive setting. Players step into the role of Mica, a black market shipper searching for her missing partner, Sasha, within the decaying remains of a dystopian no-man’s land. With the addition of Third-Person Mode, players now have the option to explore the exclusion zone in a way that caters to their preferred playstyle.
A Closer Look at Third-Person Mode
The new Third-Person Mode includes unique camera transitions and a manual zoom feature for aiming, enhancing player control during both exploration and combat. The original fixed-camera perspective remains available, featuring smoother transitions and improved targeting.
Alongside the new perspective, Patch 9 introduces updates to enemy AI, making adversaries in the zone more unpredictable. Lurkers have increased movement speed and detection range, while Hound enemies feature improved attack patterns. Additionally, ammo pickups have been adjusted, reducing availability and encouraging players to use resources strategically.
Performance and Quality-of-Life Enhancements
Beyond gameplay changes, Patch 9 addresses several performance issues and quality-of-life improvements. Loading times have been reduced, particularly on lower-end systems, as larger areas like Park/Residential Street have been divided into smaller sections. Updates to character movement, turning controls, and responsiveness aim to provide a smoother experience, while controller rumble support adds a tactile element to key moments.
Visual updates include improvements to scene transitions, save points, and animations. The update also removes motion blur effects, responding to player feedback about performance concerns.
Survival Horror Evolves
By introducing a Third-Person Mode alongside these other updates, Hollowbody bridges the gap between its classic survival horror roots and modern gameplay expectations. The flexibility in perspective aims to broaden the game’s appeal while staying true to its inspirations.
