Historical Fantasy RPG ‘Wyrdsong’ Announced; Developed by New Studio Boasting Elder Scrolls, Fallout & The Outer Worlds Talent

During Gamescom 2022, developer Something Wicked Games was announced, made by Bethesda Game Studios veteran Jeff Gardiner. The studio received $13.2 million from NetEase, and they boast creative talent from various significant titles such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and The Outer Worlds.

Additionally, the new studio announced their first upcoming game, “an occult historical fantasy RPG set in a fictionalized Portugal in the middle ages,” titled Wyrdsong. A vast degree of ambition has been teased for this forthcoming Unreal Engine 5 project, aiming to “expand, question, and re-define aspects of what makes up the current Role Playing Game genre.”

Something Wicked Games CEO and Founder Jeff Gardiner shared the following statement regarding Wyrdsong:

“Our goal with Something Wicked Games is to utilize our independence and creative autonomy to create the next evolution of open world RPGs. Our first project, Wyrdsong, has been my dream game for some time now, and I’m thrilled to finally share it today.”
