Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hō Shows Updates and Scenarios in Switch Gameplay Trailer

Entergram released a new gameplay trailer for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hō, coming to Nintendo Switch on July 26 in Japan.

Originally released in 2014 on PC in Japan, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hō includes Hinamizawa Teiryūjo (Hinamizawa Bus Stop), along with the original Higurashi Outbreak story and a brand new arc titled Kamikanshi-hen (God Violating Chapter). This updated release also includes the original eight arcs as well as Rei.

The game features a new opening as well as new sprites from the expanded cast drawn by series artist Ryukishi07.  Known in the west as Higurashi: When They Cry, the series has been licenced by MangaGamer who has yet to confirm a western release of the Switch version.

The Switch version will launch with a limited edition in Japan, which includes:

  • A physical copy of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Hō for  Nintendo Switch.
  • Higurashi Drama CD featuring Hōjō Satoko and Maebara Keiichi.
  • 64 page artbook.

The trailer features gameplay from the aforementioned added arcs plus “Hinamizawa Teiryuujo,” and “Batsukoishi-hen.”

Author’s take: Higurashi: When They Cry is a great visual novel series and I hope that a western Switch release happens if just to get a new group of gamers to experience the greatness that it is.
