Hideki Kamiya Begins YouTube Channel; Not Retiring, Wants to Keep Making Games

Hideki Kamiya, formerly Executive Vice President and Chief Designer at PlatinumGames, has begun a YouTube channel with his first video discussing his development history and details regarding his life post-departure.

Kamiya notes that it’s been about three months since he decided to quit PlatinumGames and feels “very refreshed,” taking the time to watch a lot of content online and across streaming services.

As for why he quit, he somewhat evaded the topic but said that he “wanted to follow [his] beliefs as a game creator” and choose the path he deems is right. Still, he hasn’t decided to retire yet, as he wants to keep making games. But, for unspecified reasons, he can’t work in the same industry for a year.

The rest of the video has Kamiya talking about his pursuit of cooking in his free time and how he’s a free agent seeking a new position. Plus, the contents of his YouTube channel won’t give game development insight of any kind. In fact, they’ll be “education free,” with no specific plans on his mind yet.

In case you missed the initial announcement, Kamiya was confirmed to be leaving PlatinumGames last month.
