Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice VR Edition Release Date Revealed; Free for Steam Owners
Ninja Theory announced that their action-adventure title Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice will be re-released as Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice VR Edition on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive-via Steam on July 31.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice VR Edition features the full game playable in VR, which is different from other studios opting to develop “Experiences” over porting the full game. Additionally, players who have already purchased the game on Steam will be able to download the VR version for free. A minimum of a Nvidia GTX 1080 graphics card is needed to play the update.
During development, Ninja Theory worked a verticle slice VR version in 2015 after they received VR dev kits. However, the in-studio players experienced nauseous feelings and they became sick while playing. With experience, the team implemented a set of rules and they discovered throughout development which created ways to rotate the camera without making the player sick.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice originally launched in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and PC and made it’s way to Xbox One earlier this year. The game tells the story of Senua, a warrior who is attempting to save the soul of her deceased lover, Dillion, from the goddess Hela. This quest isn’t an easy one and many challenges stand in her way.
There’s no mention of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice VR Edition coming to PlayStation VR at this time.
