Focus Home Interactive Details New Sandbox Scavenger ‘Hardspace: Shipbreaker’

Focus Home Interactive and Blackbird Interactive have announced their sandbox sci-fi title Hardspace: Shipbreaker is coming to Steam Early Access summer later this year 2020.

The gameplay trailer, which you can watch below, opens with Lynx Corporation introducing life as a salvager in space. Using high-tech laser cutters and gravity tools to dismantle and sell pieces of nonoperating spaceship for credits, all in a zero-G environment.

The gameplay seems to have plenty of freedom with is comes to extracting hardware, from cutting pathways open for large objects to create an opening to quickly suck out extra debris.

But the job is far from safe, players can also be killed during their salvaging and the cost of Lynx to clone your character adds to the player’s debt. A look at the trailer shows many ways that a salvager can die including, slamming into hard surfaces, recklessly damaging the ship that causes explosions, high temperatures and more.

During the early access, players can expect a variety of exciting features to discover, including the first act of the story campaign, two classes of spaceships to salvage, and multiple upgradeable tools and perks. Ongoing support for Hardspace: Shipbreaker will include new spaceship classes, mission, challenges, leaderboards, modding support and much more based on feedback from the community.

“We are delighted to bring Blackbird on board the Focus flagship as we continue to invest in new and innovative games that will delight players for years to come. It’s also fantastic to be able to reveal this game in full at PAX East 2020, the premiere gaming culture convention running yearly in Boston, Massachusetts,” says John Bert, Focus Home Interactive Chief Operating Officer.

Focus Home Interactive will also host a live stream of Hardspace on Twitch February 20, from 8 AM PST/11 AM ET. and for those going to PAX East, you can check out the game from February 27th to March 1st at both Focus Home Interactive and Blackbird’s booth.
