“Grim Guardians: Demon Purge” Renamed to “Gal Guardians: Demon Purge” Following Trademark Complaint
Developer Inti Creates has announced that their recent 2D action metroidvania Grim Guardians: Demon Purge, has been renamed to Gal Guardians: Demon Purge in English-speaking territories.
The reasoning given is quoted below:
This change comes after INTI CREATES received a complaint regarding the title of “Grim Guardians: Demon Purge” from the owners of the trademark “GRIMGUARD” registered in the countries listed below.
- United States
- European Union
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- New Zealand
In response to this complaint, the title of the game will be changed to “Gal Guardians: Demon Purge” in the listed countries, as well as other English-speaking regions. INTI CREATES is currently taking steps to change the title on all storefronts. Due to this, “Gal Guardians: Demon Purge” may be temporarily unavailable for purchase in some regions while undergoing this change. INTI CREATES offers sincere apologies to any customers who are affected as they strive to complete the name change as soon as possible and restore the game to sale across all platforms and regions.
Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam will see this title change in the “coming weeks.” As a result, the game may be unavailable to purchase for some time.

This “gothic-horror-inspired adventure “tells the story of two demon hunters named Shinobu Kamizono and Maya Kamizono, who rise to challenge the demon castle that appeared where their school used to be. During gameplay, players will switch between the two characters on the fly to access their unique abilities. This mechanic is crucial for taking on platforming sections and boss encounters. Fans of Inti Creates will know these characters as the stars of Gal*Gun: Double Peace.
Further, the game features a 2-players co-op mode where players can play simultaneously. There are also various difficulty options called the “Style System,” but players can expect a challenge for veteran players. The title is influenced by classic Castlevania entries, too.
