Spiders, the studio behind GreedFall, has confirmed it is being liquidated, bringing an abrupt end to the French RPG developer. The latest patch for the game was released a few days ago on April 27, so it appears it’s still receiving some support. In case you missed it, check out our review of the game.
In a message shared on the developer socials, the team acknowledged its recent silence before confirming the situation outright:
“First off, we apologise for the silence over the past month – it’s been a while.
We’re going to cut straight to the chase so you’re not left wondering: After a long period without clear answers, we have received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated.
What does it mean? This means the company as a whole no longer exists. We’ll cease our functions immediately. The planned DLC will release via Nacon, and then– well, that’s it.”
Publisher Nacon will handle the release of that final DLC, but the studio itself will not continue beyond that point.
Spiders has operated since 2008 and carved out a place in the AA RPG space with titles like Mars: War Logs and The Technomancer. Its most recognizable release, GreedFall, launched in 2019 and built a following through its faction-driven storytelling, colonial-inspired setting, and emphasis on player choice. The game’s success led to continued support and the announcement of a follow-up, GreedFall: The Dying World.
That project was positioned as a prequel set three years before the original, expanding beyond Teer Fradee into the Old Continent. It centers on a Doneigad navigating political conflict, war between nations, and a spreading disease, while maintaining the series’ focus on diplomacy, companions, and multiple combat styles.
The closure leaves the future of that project and the broader GreedFall series unclear outside of the already planned DLC release through Nacon.
The studio closed its message with a final note to players:
“We’re sorry that it’s come to this and would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years.”
