Cygames announced over the weekend that they have partnered up with Arc System Works to bring their Granblue Fantasy franchise to the fighting game space with Granblue Fantasy Versus.
Granblue Fantasy Versus will be the first fighter featuring these characters. The game will be a 2D fighter with characters representing anime versions of themselves and across various stages. The developer states that this will be a “new era of fighting games” with new balance systems and focus on sound and visuals.
Granblue Fantasy Versus is in development for the PlayStation 4 and scheduled to release in Japan in 2019. The publisher has also confirmed the game to release in the west digitally.
Playable characters in Granblue Fantasy Versus include Gran, Katalina, Charlotta, Lancelot, and Ferry. More characters will most likely be announced closer to launch, but there is no word on the size of the roster.
Additionally, the reveal trailer for the game features a few moments of gameplay to give players an idea of the quality that Arc System Works is trying to reach with this title.

Author’s take: This was a huge surprise, but I’m excited to see the future of Granblue Fantasy in the west so give us a western release date!
