With the Granblue Fantasy franchise taking over the lives of many Western mobile gamers, developer Cygames is looking forward to releasing their upcoming fighting game, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, on the PlayStation 4.
However, in this modern gaming world, players are often curious about how developers will handle post-launch DLC and additional costumes. During a Noisy Pixel interview with producer Yuito Kimura and director Tetsuya Fukuhara, we asked if the team had plans for additional custom alterations, which is something that is typically seen in fighting games, Kimura-san responded, “We will have post-launch characters added to the game, but when it comes to costumes, the way that we implement character animations would take a lot of resources to implement. So in the future, if we were to do new costumes, it would better for us to just do a whole new version of that character. We have to be really careful about how we use our resources post-launch, but we are fully committed to giving players a unique experience with each character, even if it’s a different version of the same character.
So given that I was conducting the interview, I followed up with asking if we could expect a swimsuit DLC in the future, to which Kimura-san replied, “If we’re going to do that then we will just create a swimsuit version of the character.”
Granblue Fantasy Versus will be the first fighter featuring these characters. The game will be a 2D fighter with characters representing anime versions of themselves across various stages. The developer states that this will be a “new era of fighting games” with new balance systems and focus on sound and visuals.

So what characters would you like seeing new costumes of in Granblue Fantasy: Versus? I wouldn’t mind a nice summer version of Ferry.
