Granblue Fantasy: Relink Free PlayStation Demo Launching Today; Post-Launch Updates Detailed

Cygames has announced that the free demo for their upcoming action JRPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink will launch for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on January 12 at midnight Japan Standard Time. For time conversions, the demo is now available in New Zealand, and, as of the time of this writing, the Eastern timezone in the West should have access to it in less than an hour.

It’s also worth noting that the demo will not be available for Steam users.

The tutorial, story, and quest modes will be playable to varying extents, with the lattermost option featuring three quests that are both single-player and multiplayer compatible. The eleven playable characters in the Granblue Fantasy: Relink demo are as follows:

  • Gran
  • Katalina
  • Rackam
  • Io
  • Charlotta
  • Ghandagoza
  • Narmaya
  • Lancelot
  • Siegfried
  • Yodarha
  • Zeta

Moving on, players will have the option to use Full Assist mode in the demo for accessibility purposes, and, while not specified, completing the story and quest portions of the demo will grant rewards for the full release. The team then clarified that there will unfortunately not be crossplay between PlayStation and Steam.

Regarding post-launch support, it’s emphasized that Granblue Fantasy: Relink is not a live service title. It will be a “fully realized, complete package.” Therefore, the update roadmap will focus on expanding the base experience, with the first unveiled one (1.1.0) being a challenging boss battle against Lucilius planned to arrive in early March 2024.

Then, the playable characters Seofon and Tweyen will arrive in an April 2024 update titled 1.2.0. A third update, version 1.3.0, is planned for May 2024, but its contents are a mystery. You can view the latest broadcast for additional granular details and new gameplay footage.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink will launch worldwide for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam on February 1, 2024. Digital PlayStation pre-orders will grant early access for January 29, 2024.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink takes place in Zegagrande Kingdom, where primal beasts act as island guardians, and a secretive organization known as the Church of Avia does who knows what. The protagonists end up contending with these factors, with the fate of the Sky Realm hanging in the balance.

Quests, taken with a party of four, arrive in various types, like boss battles, time attack, and survival. There are over 100 available, with some intended as post-game content. Players can customize their characters in multiple ways, including changeable weapons and sigils, as well as unlockable mastery nodes for new skills and enhanced stats. Characters can have four skills equipped at a given time.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink will feature a Full Assist mode for accessibility purposes, where all actions are performed automatically as you move the control stick. This will be usable for the entire story.

Alternatively, there will be a standard Assist Mode where combos are performed with a single button, auto-heal, auto-guard, and auto-dash are enabled, map navigation is assisted, and Skills, Skybound Arts, and Link Attacks are utilized when their respective conditions are met. Performing Skybounf Arts in succession will activate Chain Bursts.
