Santa Monica Studio released a statement today delaying the release of the next chapter of the God of War series, God of War: Ragnarök.
In a statement posted to Twitter, the company mentions, “We remain focused on delivering a top-quality game while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our team, creative partners, and families. With this in mind, we’ve made the decision to shift our release window to 2022.”
This announcement comes after workplace environments have been under the spotlight due to crunch and mental health of the employees. However, it could also have to do with the effects of COVID-19 and how that has limited the amount of PlayStation 5 units available.
God of War: Ragnarök was first revealed last year and is currently in development for PS4 and PS5. The game follows the events of the 2018 release of God of War. Players will follow both Kratos and Atreus on a new journey that finds them in ancient Norway. Given the Ragnarök sub-text, it’s expected that this will bring forth the end of days and the death of the Norse gods. In typical Kratos fashion, we can expect him to not sit kindly with the idea that something is trying to kill him.
We’ll keep you updated on the release of God of War: Ragnarök.
