Spicy Games and Okasan’s Recipe announced that Ghost Hunting Journal has received a free demo on PC via Steam.
The game is set in a modern Chinese city where spirits that refuse to pass on linger among the living. These “Spirit Permanent Residents” exist outside the normal cycle of reincarnation, leading to strange incidents and urban legends. To deal with them, specialized agents investigate and resolve supernatural cases tied to these restless souls.
Ghost Hunting Journal follows a pair of spirit agents who approach each case differently. You switch between the two protagonists to solve problems, using their individual abilities to progress through investigations. The structure leans heavily on story-driven cases, with each scenario focusing on a specific haunting and the people connected to it.
Gameplay centers on examining environments, interacting with characters, and using crafted tools to track or expose ghosts. The setting, a mountainous city called Riverrun, can be navigated between cases, including travel via a light rail system and optional interactions with NPCs around the city.
The presentation stands out for its hand-drawn anime art style and manga-inspired framing during dialogue and story scenes. The tone mixes supernatural horror elements with lighter character moments, reflected in the banter between the two leads.
A playable demo is currently available on PC via Steam, offering an early look at its investigation systems and dual-character structure. There’s no release date yet for the full version.
