Geoff Keighley Acknowledges The Game Awards’ Short Speech Time and Promises to Address it in Future Shows

During The Game Awards 2023, viewers were pretty shocked by the amount of time award winners had to speak. Each of the winners was given 30 seconds to 1 minute to say what they had to say before a teleprompter told them to “Please Wrap It Up.” Interestingly, even those who had translators were held to this rule, which did not give them enough time to properly thank their teams in front of the thousands watching, a platform they may never have again.

Well, that time has passed, and Geoff Keighley, the event’s organizer, shared a statement following a large amount of negative feedback about the event. Keighley shared in a Tweet:

By the way – I do agree that the music was played too fast for award winners this year, and I asked our team to relax that rule as the show went on. While no one was actually cut off, it’s something to address going forward.

Hopefully, he follows through. However, some are more concerned with how Keighley opted not to address the huge layoffs that happened in the industry across 2023.

If Keighley wishes to truly make this about the games, he must first start by giving these developers the time they need to thank their colleagues. I mean, without them, none of us have a job.
