The most recent Genshin Impact update for Version 1.4 is almost upon us. PC and mobile players can now perform a pre-installation of the game’s files.
For PC users: Just open your Launcher. It will then prompt you to update it. Once the download is complete, you’ll see a little cloud icon with “Game Pre-Installation” on it.
Be forewarned that 9.3 GB of free disk space is required. Although the game will only download a fraction of that data for now (around 4.3 GB), the game will allocate all the space necessary for when the patch is out on March 17.
You can continue to play the game while it downloads the update in the background, but that might cause your ping to be a bit higher than usual.
Once the update is concluded, a checkmark icon will appear. Like so:
For mobile users: In-game, tap the Paimon Menu icon on the top left and then select the cog to open up your Settings. There, tap Other, and you’ll see a button that says “Pre-Install Resource Package,” like in the image provided below.
Tap the button, and the game will begin to download some of the 1.4 resources to reduce the amount of time it will take for you to download the remaining files once 1.4 hits. Make sure you have enough space on your phone. As seen in the window below, the game will require a free space of 2.26 GB.
Mobile users can leave the update running in the background and even back out to their Home screen. (This is confirmed to be the case for Android—unsure about iOS, sorry!)
For PS4 and PS5 users, unfortunately, MiHoYo hasn’t exactly provided a way to pre-install the files ahead of time on PS4/PS5. All players can do is wait until the version officially releases on PSN on March 17th, as seen by this tweet on the official PlayStation Twitter:
