Genshin Impact Lead Composer Yu-Peng Chen Announces Departure

Yu-Pen Chen, the main composer of HoYoverse’s Genshin Impact, recently announced in a Weibo post that he will officially leave HoYoverse’s HoYo-MIX team today.

According to him, this decision came after he decided to pursue his musical career and after multiple discussions with the company. He has been the lead composer of Genshin Impact since its initial release in 2020, but he has been steadily working less and less on the soundtrack, since the newly released music for Fontaine 4.0 update did not have his involvement.

A full translation of his message can be viewed below:

My apologies for disturbing you all! According to my creative schedule, and after some careful consideration, alongside multiple discussions with [HoYoverse], I have decided to leave both HoYoverse and the HoYo-MiX team to continue pursuing my musical dreams!

To see my fellow colleagues at HoYo-MiX and their continued growth and seeing Genshin Impact’s music come all this way (Fontaine’s music is really amazing), I can’t help but think about all the help I received from both the company and my colleagues during music production…those have truly been beautiful and unforgettable experiences!

I do ask that you all understand and respect my decision. In the future, I will continue to explore along the musical journey. I plan to release a new album next year, and I will inform you all of such details at a later date. Hopefully, you all will continue to support my musical creations from here on.

I hope to see you all in Teyvat as a fellow Traveler!
