Five Video Games Released in 2021 That You Forgot to Play
Many games were released in 2021, but before the definitive top lists are revealed, we want to highlight some games that you might have forgotten to play this year.
Tails of Iron (PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Series X/Switch/PC)
If you’re into Soulslike combat set in a beautifully crafted world filled with rodents and other small creatures, this game is for you. You play as Redgi, prince to the rat throne after your father has been brutally murdered by the assaulting frog tribe. Crisp and satisfying combat combined with a rich narrative, Tails of Iron is the other Tales game that flew under your radar this year. Oh, did I mention the narrative is voiced by Doug Cockle, the voice behind Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher?
Lost Judgment (PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Series X)
This much-anticipated sequel seemed to have been released with general fanfare and then disappeared from gamer conversations. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t one of the must-play games released this year. In Lost Judgment, players join up with detective Yagami once again to solve a string of murder cases that lead him to a high school. Similar to the Yakuza series, players can enjoy fast-action systems and tons of mini-games to get lost in. It’s definitely a game that you won’t want to miss.
F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch (PS4/PS5/PC)
One look at this game, and you’ll know you have to play it. F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch is an incredible Metroidvania starring a bunny with a bad attitude. Plays assume the role of Rayton on a journey to stop the corrupt Machine Legion who invaded Torch City a few years prior. The combat is smooth and allows for various playstyles depending on which weapon you have equipped. Further, weapons allow for travel through the interconnected environments.
Fuga: Melodies of Steel (PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Series X/PC)
If you told me a game featuring something of the cutest anthropomorphic characters would make me cry, I wouldn’t believe you. However, Fuga is an emotional rollercoaster with strategical RPG systems and a cast that immerses you in a wartorn world. Although the subject matter is intense, the game still finds ways to engage the player with youthful features such as fishing and gardening, allowing enough time to rest before returning to the battlefield.
Tormented Souls (PS5/Series X/PC)
A horror game that wears its Resident Evil inspiration on its sleeve. What Tormented Souls brings to the table are unique systems that enhance the experience while also feeling familiar to fans of the genre. The game trusts that the player is capable of solving puzzles under the pressure of horrific creatures trying to kill them throughout a creepy mansion. It’s an adventure that is well designed and memorable and one that you should definitely play if you’re a fan of classic survival horror.
