Final Fantasy XVI Soundtrack Releasing July 2023; 7 CDs, Standard + Ultimate Editions
Square Enix has announced that pre-orders are available for the soundtrack of their upcoming action JRPG, Final Fantasy XVI. Scheduled to ship on July 19, 2023, there are ultimate and standard editions prospective fans can purchase.
Both releases include the 7-CD soundtrack, though the ultimate edition will have a bonus disc containing cutscene songs. Further, both editions will have an art book with additional artwork and notes by staff, such as Masayoshi Soken. Although the game’s theme song, “Tsuki Wo Miteita – Moongazing,” will not be included in either of these versions.

Unrevealed retailer bonuses will also be showcased in due time, and select purchases will grant a clear file of the Final Fantasy XVI key art. For more details, you can check out the soundtrack’s official website. The tracklist will also be detailed in the future, likely when the title has been released.
We’ll update this article if these products see a native Western launch.
UPDATE: Square Enix North America has the standard and ultimate editions of the soundtrack available for pre-order for $64.99 and $82.99, respectively. Purchases will also grant a Torgal Puppy Original Sticky Note and a mini clear file of the key art while supplies last.
Final Fantasy XVI is set to be a more action-heavy entry than its predecessors, with a Devil May Cry V designer even taking the helm. Throughout the title, players will control the protagonist, Clive, as he confronts various Dominants, humans who have been cursed with the power to become Eikons.
Clive is the “First Shield of Rosaria,” sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, who’s the Dominant of Phoenix. However, following tragedy, Clive swears revenge on the Dark Eikon Ifrit.
The producer, Naoki Yoshida, describes this game as akin to his experience with the first Final Fantasy, as “playing the lead in an epic motion picture.” The reasoning for this title’s action-oriented approach and more classical fantasy setting was to “appeal to as wide a range of gamers as possible.” Moreover, “there will be a “comprehensive support system in place for players who aren’t too confident with action games.”
