Final Fantasy XIV Surpasses 16 Millions Players Worldwide and Details Upcoming Shadowbringers Expansion

Square Enix is celebrating a milestone for Final Fantasy XIV Online, the MMORPG has just surpassed 16 million players worldwide and continues to grow as the game ushers in it’s newest expansion, Shadowbringers.

During a special LIVE segment, producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed new details of the battle system and what will be changed in the newest expansion. There’s also been an update to the FATE system, side quests, and additional role quests along with adjustments made to the job synergy and rebalancing of jobs as well as various quality of life changes and UI updates.

The publisher released a new trailer showing each of the job classes in action. Players are now able to download new benchmark software where they can create characters as they’ll appear in Shadowbringers as well as new races Hrothgar and Viera. Players who create characters using the benchmark can transfer them over to the full game.

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers marks the first time Warriors of Light will travel between world to become Warriors of Darkness. The party will fight to restore night and save the world from the apocalypse the Flood of Light promises. This expansion includes new job classes such as Dancer and Gunbreaker along with an increased level cap, new areas, and raids.

Final Fantasy XIV Online is available now on PlayStation 4 and PC.
