Square Enix announced the next major expansion for their MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV Online called Shadowbringers.
Shadowbringers will be the next chapter in the game set to release in early summer 2019 allowing players to battle against enemies and become Warriors of Darkness.
Director Naoki Yoshida announced the expansion during Fan Festival 2018 in Las Vegas with a brand new trailer that gives a first look at the characters and story of the expansion. Additionally, new content was also revealed, including a new race, multiple new jobs, and increased level patch. There will also be some adjustments made to the battle system and new material gathering content.
Other updates include:
- NPC “Trust” System – Players will now be able to fight alongside familiar NPCs.
- New Game+ Feature – A feature that allows players to “replay” the FINAL FANTASY XIVmain scenario stories.
- World Visit System – Players will be able to travel to other servers on the same data center and interact with more players than ever before.
As a special surprise to fans, the blue mage was revealed and will be available to players of A Realm Reborn who have reached level 50 as a Disciple of War or Magic and completed the 2.0 main scenarios. The blue mage will be able to learn monster actions as they advance the solo campaign.
More information is set to be revealed at the Paris Fan Festival event on February 2 through 3 in 2019 and the Tokyo Fan Festive on March 23 through 24 in 2019.

Author’s take: I’m super stoked to see this game receiving content that excites the fans of the game. There is so much to discover in Final Fantasy XIV and it’s good to see that it is thriving where so many other titles have fallen off.
