New information about Final Fantasy VII Revelation was recently unveiled in an interview with the Japanese outlet Denfaminicogamer, involving director Naoki Hamaguchi.
Hamaguchi confirmed that the game is already playable from beginning to end, including side content, and that the team is now focused on balance, polish, and asset replacement.
Once a location has been visited, fast travel can return players directly to the Highwind. The airship also has explorable interior spaces that change as players progress through the world.
Hamaguchi said the full world map can be flown across, including returning regions from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. However, these areas have been redesigned following events involving the Weapons, featuring altered terrain and new quests. The recurring chocobo Piko will also grow, eventually allowing greater aerial exploration.
During combat, Vincent can freely switch between his human form and Beast Mode with a button press, allowing players to shift between ranged and close-range offense without a time limit. Cid is an aerial attacker with strong jump-based attacks and support options.
The new FITS system will expand character roles. Inspired by traditional Final Fantasy job systems, each character will gain access to four FITS types at once when the system unlocks, prioritizing player-driven freedom and decision-making.
Several classic locations and elements were also discussed. Wutai will play a major role, Rocket Town will appear, the underwater section will be included in some form, and the Knights of the Round summon has been confirmed. The infamous slap fight will also return.
Hamaguchi confirmed the story will conclude with a single ending rather than multiple endings. However, side content will change based on player choices, with some stories or events potentially missed depending on what players decide to pursue.
Mini-games will remain a major part, though they now include easier difficulty options and can be skipped if players do not want to complete them.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will feature the final battle against Sephiroth as a meteor becomes prominent and planetary guardians carve the world. Players can anticipate taking to the skies with the Highwind alongside a full party that includes playable Vincent and Cid.
Players will be able to drop in via parachute anywhere, seamlessly transitioning from air to land. You’ll need to choose where to go, who to help, and in what order. It will also be possible to customize combat by switching between real-time action and Tactical Mode.
The new FITS system is akin to a Job mechanic from X-2 and Lightning Returns, which used dressspheres. Vincent Valentine uses lightning-fast gunplay and ferocious, bestial transformations. Cid Highwind can control the tempo by quickly closing the distance for powerful single-target lance strikes or sweeping area-of-effect damage.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be released for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Windows, Epic Games Store, and Steam in Spring 2027.
