Final Fantasy VII Remake Introduces the Luckiest Man on Gaia, Scarlet’s Footstool, Ottoman

The official Japanese Twitter account for Final Fantasy VII Remake has shared new niche trivia about its intricate world. To elucidate, one of Shinra’s most integral members has finally been given a name, Ottoman.

And just who is Ottoman, you may ask? He is Scarlet’s footstool. While his role may appear meaningless in the grand scheme of planet-defining conceptualizations and initializations, his presence gives Scarlet comfort, which is sorely needed for her to make efficient progress in Shinra’s Weapons Development.

The Twitter account introduced and described Ottoman as the following, translated via our team’s Ryuji:

“His name is Ottoman. He is a guard exclusively assigned to one duty: To be the footstool for the Head of Weapons Development, Scarlet!

His back is exquisitely cushioned…so much so that he’s Scarlet’s favorite. Due to that, he’s on duty pretty much 24 hours a day…”

Given the emphasized nature of his seemingly soft back, Scarlet would have a difficult time seeking out another willing Shinra grunt with Ottman’s impressively unique qualifications.

And all that aside, if you’re working for Shinra, being Scarlet’s footstool is undeniably the most favorable position to achieve. Why? Well…perhaps some things are better left unsaid.

The latest Final Fantasy VII release is Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion. It is a modernized retelling of the original Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, a prequel to the game that initiated this beloved sub-series. Players control Zack, a hyperactive and determined SOLDIER yearning to become not only First Class, but also a hero in his own right.

Combat utilizes real-time action elements alongside the innovative “Digital Mind Wave” system, used to perform special attacks called Limit Breaks and achieve other notable feats.

If you missed it, check out our review of the game.

Late last year, I wrote an article discussing the prevalent false assumptions people have about Tetsuya Nomura, including how many believe he wrote Crisis Core when he, in fact, did not.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is now available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

The Closed Beta Test for Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis has been delayed to Summer 2023.
