Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Looks F’ing Insane in New Gameplay; Coming Early 2024 on Two Discs

During the Summer Game Fest 2023 showcase, Square Enix released new gameplay for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth while also revealing that it will release on PlayStation 5 in Early 2024 on two discs.

During the trailer, we get a better idea of what this chapter of the trilogy will cover as we see Cloud and the gang set out on a quest to save the planet. The world appears to be full of life and waiting for players to explore. Further, we get the chance to see some Chocobos. We also get to see just how far this story will go as the trailer includes Cosmo Canyon.

Team attacks also seem to be a thing during combat. Characters can group together to unleash powerful attacks.

Still, this entry will focus on some of Cloud’s backstory and how he joined up with Sephiroth and became a SOLDIER. Interestingly, the trailer points out that there are multiple timelines compounding into one story. Sephiroth points out that he killed Tifa, and asks who she is, referring to the Tifa who is very much alive.

Producer Yoshinori Kitase shared the following statement:

“We’re honored to bring players around the world early next year the next installment of this thrilling tale, FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH.

The party will embark on a new adventure, so players can enjoy this story even without any familiarity with the previous title or the original FINAL FANTASY VII. The vast and explorable world along with the newly evolved speedy battles are sure to provide a most exciting gaming experience to new adventurers.

We would, of course, like to invite returning players and longtime fans to watch our new trailer closely for glimpses of pivotal story moments that Cloud and his friends will confront.

The entire team has worked fervently with love and adoration for the world of FINAL FANTASY VII, reaching new heights of cinematic storytelling, immersive combat, rich exploration and more, and we can’t wait to share more details later this year.”

Interestingly, they call it a “completely standalone game.”

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the sequel to the first entry in this ongoing Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy effort. Throughout the announcement trailer, players got a tease of the Nibleheim flashback with Cloud and Sephiroth and Zack carrying Cloud, seemingly from either the end of Crisis Core or the end of Remake.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 this Winter.
