Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Will Feature More Spinoff Characters Besides Zack, Says Director

Outlet Techraptor interviewed Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi at New York Comic Con, with the latter revealing a significant teasing tidbit. Hamaguchi stated that aside from Zack, fans can anticipate other characters from Final Fantasy VII spinoffs to appear in the game.

He explicitly said the following:

“Without again providing any major spoilers, besides Zack, who was not in the original Final Fantasy VII but will be making an appearance here, there’s going to be other characters from FFVII spinoffs that will be appearing in Rebirth as well.”

By this phrasing, it’s possible that more characters from Crisis Core or from Dirge of Cerberus may arrive. It’s also possible that characters from Before Crisis and the novels may be present, too.

The lattermost is plausible when considering Final Fantasy VII Remake’s inclusion of Kyrie, a main character in The Kids Are Alright: A Turks Side Story, as well as Leslie, who appeared in the same novel. Perhaps we’ll see Remake’s interpretation of Evan Townshend, the protagonist of that book.

Other possible characters are the Turks’ leader in Before Crisis, Verdot, his daughter Elfe, and AVALANCHE member Fuhito from the same title. There is ample opportunity to implement overlooked and underrated characters from avenues of Final Fantasy VII that many have never known about.
