Square Enix has revealed new Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary merchandise set to appear at San Diego Comic-Con from July 21 through July 24, 2022, with currently expected 2023 deliveries.
The newly announced merchandise includes a Bring Arts Action figure of protagonist Cloud Strife, though there is an unfortunate caveat to all of this.
The Standard Edition will include the physical figure and a certificate of authenticity. The Digital Plus Edition, on the other hand, will consist of the physical figure and a certificate of authenticity, but it will also come with a non-fungible token (NFT) consisting of a digital version of the figure.
It should be noted that in both cases, your certificate of authenticity is also an NFT, and in order to redeem it, you will need to sign up for a 3rd party service called ENJIN.
Square Enix has stated the following:
This Square Enix Store exclusive product offers the same high quality action figure as the standard edition, plus a code to access a digital version of the collectible figure and one exchange ticket to redeem for a digital certificate of authenticity on the Efinity network, which will require the ENJIN wallet app. The digital version of the figure can be enjoyed on a dedicated website through PCs and smart phones.
An active Square Enix Members (free) and Enjin wallet app (free, operated by a non-Square Enix 3rd party) are required for the digital items. The Enjin wallet app is available for download from Google Play and the Apple App Store – https://enjin.io/products/

To say this development is wretched would be an understatement. Hopefully, action is taken to cease these plans as soon as possible.
