Fate/Samurai Remnant Director Wants to Create a New IP

Ahead of the launch of the Koei Tecmo and Team NINJA action JRPG Fate /Samurai Remnant, we interviewed the game’s director, Ryota Matsushita, about various related subject matter.

In one such question, we asked Matsushita about his time being a director and what goals he’s aspiring toward. In response, he said that following the completion of Fate/Samurai Remnant, he wants to create a new original IP. He didn’t go into detail about what this new IP would comprise, but it’s some interesting food for thought.

Looking at Matsushita-san’s previous projects, we found that he is fairly new to the role of director, and we wanted to learn how he was shaping into that new responsibility. We asked, “You’re fairly new to the director role. I’m curious how you feel about taking on this great responsibility? Do you ever find yourself wanting to pop into the designer room to assist the team? What are some of your future goals as you take on new challenges?”

Matsushita-san replied, “The Fate series has a long history, and many fans that are deeply attached to the franchise. I was always thinking about what I should do as a game director in this context because I was a newcomer to this IP and its fanbase.” He added, “How is it in other game studios? I’m always in the dev team room with other members, facing the screen and holding a controller. On the other hand, I will still have the presence of mind not to jump in on members who have situations they don’t want to be found by the director. As for my future goals, I would also like to start up a new and original IP!”

In Fate/Samurai Remnant, a battle of immense significance known as the Waxing Moon Ritual unfolds. This ritual holds the power to grant any and all wishes, serving as the focal point of the narrative. Seven individuals, known as Masters, are vying for the opportunity to have their wishes fulfilled through the Ritual. In their quest, these Masters summon seven Heroic Spirits, referred to as Servants, into this world to aid them in their endeavors. Thus commences the battle between these seven Masters and their loyal Servants.

Within the game, players will find themselves immersed in the city of Edo, where the Waxing Moon Ritual takes center stage. To achieve victory in this ritual, players must engage in a multifaceted action RPG experience that encompasses elements such as combat, exploration, and conversation. The game intricately weaves these elements together to provide a comprehensive gaming experience.

Fate /Samurai Remnant will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on September 29, 2023.
