Fate/Samurai Remnant Director Believes They Have “Established the Format” for the Holy Grail War as an Action RPG

Ahead of the launch of the Koei Tecmo and Team NINJA action JRPG Fate /Samurai Remnant, we interviewed the game’s director, Ryota Matsushita, about various related subject matter.

In one question, we asked Matsushita about the possibility of a sequel of sorts, and while he expectedly said no, he did reaffirm his confidence in this new release. He believes that the Holy Grail War tradition seen in many Fate media has seen its action RPG format established in this outing.

During the interview, we asked, “I know Fate/Samurai Remnant hasn’t been released yet, but are there plans to make this a series so maybe we can see a sequel?”

Matsushita-san replied, “We do not have any detailed plans to share at this moment, but we feel that with this work, we have, to some extent, established the format for depicting the Holy Grail War as an action RPG game.”

In Fate/Samurai Remnant, a battle of immense significance known as the Waxing Moon Ritual unfolds. This ritual holds the power to grant any and all wishes, serving as the focal point of the narrative. Seven individuals, known as Masters, are vying for the opportunity to have their wishes fulfilled through the Ritual. In their quest, these Masters summon seven Heroic Spirits, referred to as Servants, into this world to aid them in their endeavors. Thus commences the battle between these seven Masters and their loyal Servants.

Within the game, players will find themselves immersed in the city of Edo, where the Waxing Moon Ritual takes center stage. To achieve victory in this ritual, players must engage in a multifaceted action RPG experience that encompasses elements such as combat, exploration, and conversation. The game intricately weaves these elements together to provide a comprehensive gaming experience.

Fate /Samurai Remnant will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on September 29, 2023.
