The Japanese outlet Gamer recently launched an interview with Toshihiro Kondo, the president of developer Nihon Falcom, about the latest entry in the Ys franchise, Ys X Nordics.
However, aside from reflection surrounding particular facets of the project, Kondo also revealed that as of November 27, 2023, discussions about the next entry of the Ys series have begun at Falcom.
You can view a translation of Kondo’s answers via our team’s Ryuji below:
Kondo: First of all, I would like to thank you all so much for your support. Ys X was a milestone for us, and it was an adventure for us as well. We had to reevaluate everything we had done up to this point and wondered if it would be appropriate to do so.
After Celceta, we have been trying to create new experiences for everyone, along with Adol, so we will be sure to include elements unique to each title in our game production.
We finally started discussing the next title yesterday*, and we are beginning to think that the next one will be exciting for everyone, so we will probably take a little more time, but we hope you will join us for Adol’s next adventure.
*Note: Interview conducted on November 28th, 2023.

Ys X Nordics occurs between Ys II and Memories of Celceta, making it the new third canonical entry in Adol Christin’s adventure logs. The gameplay has undergone a significant shakeup, with there only being two playable characters this time around.
Special maneuvers can be unlocked via story scenes and exploration, allowing for environmental interaction. Further, in solo mode, the character you’re not controlling performs actions judged by their own discretion. Adol will be controlling a ship for combat and island hopping, too.
Unused Ys Seven concepts are utilized in this outing, too. Ys X Nordics allows players considerable explorative freedom, enabling naval travel with a recruitable crew and ship combat.
Ys X Nordics is available in Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
