Gust Will Maintain the Integrity of the Fairy Tail IP By Including Fanservice
Fans of Fairy Tail will know that although the shonen manga features many moments of magical action, the series doesn’t shy away from a certain level of fanservice. With Gust developing the most recent title, we wondered if they would bring their own experience in the fanservice department to the new IP.
During an interview with producer Keisuke Kikuchi, we asked if fans can expect to see fanservice in the upcoming RPG, Kikuchi-san replied, “During the game, the characters do go to the beach, which is in line with the canon of the series. We plan on maintaining the integrity of the Fairy Tail world. So, fans can expect to see that level of fanservice because that’s how the original IP presented it, whether it’s shown in a costume or a story scene.”
When it comes to licensed anime video games, the license holder is usually pretty strict about how their characters are represented. With that in mind, we asked if Gust was still able to have fun with the game’s story or costumes, Kikuchi-san shared, “Hiro Mashima has a lot of say in his IP and he is always thinking from the viewpoint of the fans. During development, he actually encouraged us to do add more. In that sense, it was really easy for us to work with him and get creative. There were things he was strict about like certain characters wouldn’t wear these costumes or be in a particular situation.”
Fairy Tail will be set during the Tenrou Island arc, the Grand Magic Games arc, and the Tartaror arc as well as other episodes from the original canon. The game will begin about halfway through the anime series as Natsu returns the Fairy Tail guild to bring it back to its former glory. Through the game, players will face off against Hades, Kagura, and many others as they go through each arc.
In addition, players can experience original episodes between the characters to build their bonds and relationships with the cast. Two new characters have also been revealed, Gajeel Redfox, and Juvia Lockser, who will join the previously announced cast Natsu Dragneel, Lucy Heartfilia, Gray Fullbuster, Erza Scarlet, and Wendy Marvell as playable characters.
